Tall Oaks Farm was listed as a finalist in four categories for the 2021 Sovereign Awards when the Jockey Club of Canada recently announced the nominees. The Sovereign Awards honor Canada’s champions and recognizes their outstanding achievements in Canadian Thoroughbred Racing and Breeding.
The farm itself is nominated as the Breeder of the Year, while Avie’s Empire is nominated as Outstanding Broodmare, and Avie’s Flatter is a finalist in both the Champion Male Turf Horse and Champion Male Sprinter categories.
Among the top 2021 performers bred and campaigned by Tall Oaks are two-time graded winner Avie’s Flatter, Grade 2-placed Court Return, and H C Holiday, who placed in both the Queen’s Plate and Plate Trial S.
Avie’s Empire is the dam of Avie’s Flatter, as well as stakes winner Avie’s Mineshaft and stakes-placed Avie’s Mesa.
Avie’s Flatter, who races for Tall Oak’s Ivan Dalos and trainer Josie Carroll, won three of his five starts in 2021, including the Neartic S. (G2) and the Connaught Cup (G2). The now 6-year-old has earned over $1 million and a total of six stakes in his brilliant career.
The winners of each category will be announced during the 47th Annual Sovereign Award Ceremony that will be held on the evening of Apr. 14, 2022 at Universal Eventspace in Vaughan, Ontario.
